Historic Concrete Lion From Utah State Capitol Sw Picture(s) and Description:
This auction is for one of the four cement Lions of the Utah State Capitol. This original lion was created in 1915 by sculptor Gavin Jack and later repaired in 1977 by local Utah artist Ralphael Plescia. This was a prominent fixture on Capitol Hill until 2004 when the restoration of the Capitol began. This lion was on the Southwest side of the Capitol. It has some damage, see photos. It weighs approximately 12,000 lbs. and measures approximately 137 long by 65 wide by 66 tall. The lion is on a custom built metal platform that is approximately 165 long by 84 wide by 10 tall. It is believed that when the lion from the Southwest side was repaired in the late 1970s a time capsule was placed inside it.
